CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Jim Carlin, a former Iowa State Senator, announced Friday that he is running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by republican Sen. Joni Ernst.

Carlin, a republican, served in the Iowa Senate from late 2017 until 2023. He served in the Iowa House from January 2017 to December 2017.

Since leaving the Iowa Senate, Carlin founded the Iowa Liberty Network to help recruit constitutional, conservative candidates to the Iowa Legislature.

“Iowans deserve a voice in Washington D.C. who actually listens to them and represents them - not big donors and special interests,” Carlin said in a statement. “More than that, Iowans deserve someone who genuinely cares about them and will work to make their lives better.”
