BERNIE, Mo. (KFVS) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s (MSHP) Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) is investigating the death of a Bernie Police officer.

According to MSHP, 58-year-old Bernie Police Lt. Eddie Mays died Thursday evening, June 5 while attempting to take a man into custody in connection with a domestic disturbance call at a home on West Crumb Avenue.

MSHP said they were requested by the Bernie Police Chief to investigate the circumstances surrounding Lt. Mays, death.

As of Friday morning, investigators believe Mays may have died from complications from a medical condition, but the official cause of his death is pending a complete investigation and autopsy.

The investigation into Mays’ death remains active and ongoing.
