WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - An elementary student from Westfield was chosen to pitch before the Boston Red Sox game on Wednesday.
Nichole Malo sent 22News a video and photos of her daughter, 10-year-old Phoenix, waving to the crowd on the pitcher's mound as her name was announced. She threw the ball right over the plate into the catcher's mitt!
Phoenix, a student at Westfield River Elementary School, was on a field trip to the Red Sox game on Wednesday when she was selected to pitch before the game. The Red Sox played against the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park in the afternoon game, winning 11 to 9.
The Red Sox play against the Yankees this weekend on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
