OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Nebraska Supreme Court released its opinion Friday regarding the case of a 15-year-old charged with sexual assault, overruling the appeals court and sending the case back to adult court.

Jeremiah Thornton, who was 15 when he was accused of allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl during school hours at Westside High School, faces one charge of first-degree sexual assault.

He was initially charged as an adult in 2023 and Jeremiah’s lawyers appealed to move the case to juvenile court after the Douglas County District Court denied their motion.

The appeal was upheld, and the case was moved to juvenile court, and prosecutors challenged the ruling, taking the case to the Nebraska Supreme Court.
