Betty Rae’s has expanded in recent years from its original locations in Waldo and the River Market to several Johnson County municipalities: Overland Park, Prairie Village, Merriam, Olathe.

On Friday the local ice cream chain announced another upcoming store. This one’s in Shawnee’s Monticello Center, at 22350 West 66th St.

The opening is planned for early July.

Owner Matt Shatto of Shatto Milk Co. bought Betty Rae’s in 2023. In addition to bringing the ice cream to local suburbs, Shatto has also launched a franchise program. There are now two Betty Rae’s in Omaha, and the company said in a release that it is exploring potential franchise locations in several other Midwestern cities, including St. Louis, Nashville, Wichita, Bentonville, and Tulsa.
