Pelham is reviewing funding options to cover the town’s requested $5.8-million local share toward the south Niagara Falls hospital expected to open in 2028.
Lynn Guerriero, Niagara Health president and chief executive officer, appeared in front of town council Wednesday to discuss the hospital system’s request and provide information on the future of Welland hospital.
She said Niagara Health faces “significant system pressure” from physician shortages, outdated infrastructure and increased patient volumes.
“When one part of the system faces challenges, it has a ripple effect across the entire system. Our outdated infrastructure limits our physical capacity,” she said.
“Most of the facilities are beyond the point of renovation or redevelopment to meet our future hospital needs.”
