LAPORTE — State Sen. Michael Bohacek, R-Michiana Shores, filed a motion Friday hoping to avoid temporarily losing his driver's license while his criminal drunken driving case proceeds.

Bohacek, by way of his defense attorney David Payne of Michigan City, asked the court to allow him to continue driving with the installation of an ignition interlock device in his vehicle.

The requested IID is described as a breathalyzer system that prevents a vehicle from being driven if the driver has been drinking alcohol.

Bohacek's motion recognizes that upon being charged with operating while intoxicated, the court shall recommend the immediate suspension of the accused's driving privileges.
