The University of Minnesota announced Friday its plans to sell the historic Les Bolstad Golf Course at the end of the season because of the "challenging financial environment."

University officials notified the Board of Regents about its intent to sell, stating that the course doesn't generate enough money to pay for repairs and upkeep.

"The University is in a constrained economic environment and must ensure every investment is core to our mission," school officials posted on the university's website. "In unpredictable times, it’s more important than ever to be clear about who we are and strategic in how we deploy resources."
