The Town of Moreland commemorated legendary Southern humorist, author and former Moreland resident Lewis Grizzard with the unveiling of a historical marker in his honor.

Grizzard moved to Moreland at a young age and spent the rest of his childhood in the rural town. After graduating from the University of Georgia, Grizzard reached national acclaim for his humorous newspaper columns and books detailing Southern life.

At his peak, Grizzard’s columns were syndicated to more than 450 newspapers nationwide, according to the Biographical Dictionary of American Newspaper Columnists. He also published 20 books throughout his career, with five being published after his death in 1994.
