ST. LOUIS — Prosecutors on Friday charged Donald Lee Cummings, 43, with murder after police say he fatally punched a man in the Hyde Park area last month.

The victim, Joseph Brown, was punched on May 25 in the 3200 block of Knapp Street. He died six days later.

According to court documents, a witness told police that Cummings got out of a pickup truck and walked up to Brown. They "cordially greeted one another," then Cummings punched Brown in the face, police said.

Brown fell and hit his head on the pavement. Brown was taken to a hospital, where he died May 31. The Medical Examiner's Office said Brown died of blunt force trauma and that his death was a homicide.

Cummings, 43, is charged with second-degree murder. A judge ordered Cummings be held without bond.
