(FOX40.COM) — Firefighters with the Lathrop-Manteca Fire District rescued a driver who was inside a truck that had crashed and was hanging above the San Joaquin River on Friday.

Officials said crews responded to reports of a crash around 5:16 a.m. on southbound I-5 at the San Joaquin River.

Crews discovered a single box truck that had crashed with the tractor breaching the guardrail.

Firefighters stabilized the truck and prepared to make a vertical rescue as crews made contact with the driver over the phone.

According to officials, a firefighter was lowered onto the cab of the truck from a ladder truck that was extended over the vehicle.
