Rory McIlroy came into 2025 RBC Canadian Open after a week off. Word came out that he made a switch with his TaylorMade driver before starting the week at TPC Toronto.
He also spent a good chunk of his pre-tournament news conference discussing a failed driver test at the PGA Championship.
During Thursday's first round, when nearly 100 golfers were under par late in the day, McIlroy was spinning his wheels before signing for a 1-over 71.
Friday wasn't much better. After four straight pars, McIlroy made a mess of the par-4 fifth hole, needing eight shots to find the cup.
His second shot went OB deep, his fourth was deep as well. All in all, not what the 2019 and 2022 Canadian Open champ needed in his quest to make the cut in the last tournament before next week's U.S. Open.
