AUSTIN, Texas — A former Austin Police Department (APD) officer has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Official Oppression stemming from two incidents that happened while he was on the job last year.

Sgt. Brian Yarger resigned in November 2024 "in lieu of termination and participation in a disciplinary hearing," according to APD.

KVUE reached out to the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) for a statement on the charges against Yarger, who provided the following response:
