ALLEGANY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Health officials are warning the public to avoid contact with Georges Creek until further notice due to raw sewage contamination.
On Friday, the Allegany County Health Department said raw sewage flowed into waters downstream from Shaft to the Westernport Wastewater Treatment Plant.
People are warned not to drink, fish, or swim in those waters because sewage contaminants can cause severe sicknesses.
The health department will update people when it is safe to do so again.
