MINNEAPOLIS — A verdict has been reached in the trial of Derrick Thompson, who is accused of killing five women in a crash in Minneapolis two years ago.
Thompson was found guilty to 15 counts of criminal vehicular homicide. KARE 11's Lou Raguse was in the courtroom and said it is packed with members of the Somali community. Raguse said Thompson did not show much emotion as the verdict was read while some jurors were holding back tears.
The criminal complaint says Thompson was speeding down I-94 in a rented SUV the night of June 16, 2023, when a state trooper clocked him doing 95 mph and began a pursuit. Thompson allegedly saw the trooper, exited the interstate onto Lake Street and ran a red light at speeds up to 100 mph. He crashed into a vehicle carrying the five victims, Siham Adan
