(KRON) -- Cal Fire is responding to a wildfire west of Scotts Valley in the Santa Cruz Mountains Friday afternoon. The wildfire, named the Hermon Fire, grew to 2 acres by 12:38 p.m. and is 50 percent contained, Cal Fire said.

As of 2:47 p.m., Mt Hermon Road remained closed from Scotts Valley to Felton. The big flames are gone, according to CalFire, but a water tender is still supplying water to firefighters up the steep hill.

"There are still hot spots," said CalFire. "We want to make sure it's safe for you and our crews."

The fire has a slow rate of spread, according to Cal Fire. No structures are currently threatened.
