After nine years of sniffing out bombs, Wyoming Highway Patrol K-9 Duster is hanging up his leash.

The WHP in a Facebook post on Friday morning saluted Duster for his loyalty, bravery, and unwavering service, and wished him well on his well-earned retirement.

"From sweeping the Capitol of Wyoming to protecting countless high-profile events, K9 Duster has been a silent Guardian of the Cowboy State," the agency said.

Trained to detect explosives, the WHP says Duster has ensured the safety of fellow officers, elected officials, and the community.

'Duster's Legacy Will Live On'

"He may be trading in long shifts and patrols for belly rubs and naps in the sun, but Duster’s legacy will live on in the lives protected and threats prevented," the Patrol said.
