Defence lawyer tells court there was no evidence his client had contact with the victim on the night of her death

Allegations against a Calgary man charged with manslaughter in the death of a city toddler were dropped Friday after a prosecutor determined she had no reasonable likelihood of a conviction.

But the lawyer for Winston Campbell said not only was there little evidence against his client, but none at all.

“Not only was there no evidence he committed the offence, there was no evidence he even had contact with the child on the night of her death,” defence counsel Cory Wilson said in a written statement, shortly after Crown prosecutor Rose Greenwood withdrew the charge.

Wilson said his client was grateful to finally have the allegation against him dropped.
