PINE GROVE – The Cumberland Valley softball team needed three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning against Nazareth in the PIAA Class 3A quarterfinals Thursday and that looked like a tall order the way Blue Eagles pitcher Kylie Grover was throwing.

But the Eagles did what they’ve done all season long and fought to the bitter end.

Cumberland Valley rallied valiantly, but a brilliant Nazareth defensive play cut down a runner at home plate and the Eagles rally fell short.

Nazareth (21-6) prevailed by a 5-4 count at Pine Grove Area High School and will advance to Monday’s PIAA 6A semifinal against Hempfield.

Cumberland Valley, the District 3 champions, concludes its season with a mark of 20-4.
