If you picked up a random comic book from a publisher like DC or Marvel and opened a page, chances are you’d see a character themed after some kind of animal. You’ve got heroes like Batman, Spider-Man, and Black Panther. And there are villains like Doctor Octopus, Penguin, and the Lizard.

As it turns out, even outside of the fictional universes of those mighty heroes and villains, animals in the real world already kind of have superpowers in some of their unique adaptations. That’s why a new exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science called Extreme Animals Alive feels like walking straight into a comic book or graphic novel.
