The criminal case against Niagara Falls City Coun. Mike Strange has been adjourned until July.

Strange, 54, a three-time Olympic boxer, was arrested and charged with assault by Niagara Regional Police in early May in relation to an incident in Niagara Falls.

In an Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines on Friday, a representative of defence lawyer Michael Delgobbo requested the matter be deferred until next month. Strange was not in court.

Justice of the peace Nancy Rogers-Bain agreed to the request and scheduled the matter to return July 2.

A Niagara Regional Police spokesperson said previously that officers were called to a residence in the area of Rousseau Place and Appleford Avenue at about 3 a.m. May 3 for a report of a domestic assault.
