SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – County auditors in South Dakota will begin cleaning up the voter registration list this summer. State and county officials say there are a few ways residents can help make the process easier.

Every odd-numbered year, the 66 country auditors in the state run a routine maintenance check of the voter list to ensure the roll remains up to date.

“We just don't want a lot of voters that are on the rolls that no longer should be,” Minnehaha County Auditor Leah Anderson said.

The process to remove people from the voter roll is a long one, Anderson admitted.

“Our system goes through and if somebody hasn't updated their voter registration or they haven't voted in 4 years, then it's also gonna try to look for a national change of address for them,” she said.
