Keyshawn Davis’ triumphant homecoming as a boxing world champion has been dampened significantly after he missed weight by more than 3 pounds at a weigh-in Friday at Scope.
Davis, a Norfolk native who became a WBO world champion on Feb. 14, is still expected to fight Edwin De Los Santos on Saturday night at Scope. But Davis will be stripped of his lightweight title because he came in at 139.3 pounds. That’s 4.3 pounds over the 135-pound limit.
Rather than attempt to cut down to the weight limit, Davis opted to give up his title.
“Keyshawn missed weight by 4.3 points. The two sides are currently negotiating so the fight can continue, but regardless Keyshawn will no longer be the WBO champion,” Evan Korn, Director of Communications & Fighter Development for Top Rank told The Pilot.
