After the Ranch Fire burning south of Patagonia in Southern Arizona didn't expand its 2,700-acre footprint overnight, crews focused on mopping up hot spots remaining from the lighting-sparked blaze on Thursday, officials said.

Cooler overnight temperatures and increased humidity helped to significantly decrease fire activity throughout the night, Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management officials posted. Residents north of the fire have been returned to a "ready" status, a lower-level caution, after being told to be "set" to evacuate on Wednesday.

There were about 135 personnel working the fire, mostly in drainage areas within the perimeter mapped on Wednesday afternoon, where flames continue due to heat buildup in those spots, said Tiffany Davila, a spokesperson for the Forest
