WASHINGTON (WJW) - The U.S. Department of State has reissued its travel advisory for Jamaica.

The May 29 update reduced Jamaica’s overall travel advisory from a Level 3 to a Level 2, which urges people to reconsider travel.

However, the advisory lists several areas of the island as a Level 4 “Do Not Travel.”

The “Do Not Travel” alert is in effect for more than a dozen specific neighborhoods and towns in Jamaica with high crime, including Kingston, Montego Bay, Spanish Town and Clarendon Parish.

“Armed robberies and sexual assaults are common,” the alert said.

“The U.S. Embassy routinely receives reports of sexual assaults, including from U.S. citizen tourists at resorts,” it continued.

“Tourist areas generally have lower rates of violent crime,” the advisory noted, “but all travelers
