GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The iconic Blue Bridge in downtown Grand Rapids will shine orange this weekend to honor victims of gun violence.

National Gun Violence Awareness day is Friday, June 6 this year, marking the beginning of Wear Orange Weekend, an annual gun safety awareness campaign.

The Blue Bridge will be illuminated with bright orange lights through dusk on Sunday, June 8, in coordination with the movement, according to a news release from Wear Orange.

The visual statement is meant to honor lives lost from gun violence and demand change, said Christina VanEyl, West Michigan Wear Orange lead volunteer.

“Wear Orange is dedicated to honoring the lives of people in the United States affected by gun violence and elevating the voices of those demanding an end to this epidemic,” VanEyl said
