An air ambulance has been spotted circling close to the scene of two crashes at the same junction.

Traffic was held on the A2 eastbound between Halfpence Lane in Cobham and Junction 1 of the M2 in Strood earlier this evening.

Lanes three and four were both closed, and traffic is queuing in the area.

Cameras from National Highways showed a fire engine at the scene and vehicles stopped on the hard shoulder approaching the junction.

There remain severe delays in the area, although the lanes have been reopened, according to traffic reporting service Inrix.

Meanwhile, the exit slip road towards Strood from the Londonbound M2 onto the A289 Wainscott bypass - just after the Medway bridge - has also been shut.

A separate crash has caused damage which requires emergency repairs.
