Two off-leash Rottweilers attacked and killed a smaller dog before biting people in Niagara Falls Thursday, police say.
Niagara Regional Police said they responded to a 911 call at 2:50 p.m. in the area of Lundy’s Lane and Drummond Road, where the dogs were running loose without an owner.
Initial reports to police were that the dogs had killed a smaller dog and bitten a bystander.
While officers were on the way, they received information that the dogs were actively attacking another person.
Police said they arrived to find the Rottweilers “aggressively mauling” a lone male.
The NRP said fearing for the safety of the individual and an escalation of aggression toward other people, an officer shot the dogs and stopped the attack.
One of the dogs died and the other was alive at the scene
