TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — On Monday, a brief but intense storm flooded the streets of a Tampa neighborhood South of Gandy Boulevard.

James Adair said he believes one reason the neighborhood flooded was because of the stormwater run-off system has not been maintained by the city.

"Right now, these ditches are being impeded by the growth," said Adair.

He was named as a "Hurricane Hero" after last year's storms by Rep. Kathy Castor because of the help he gave to neighbors following back-to-back hurricanes.

Adair said he's found documents and traced ditches and retention ponds and found overgrowth and backup.

"I think these ditches are so not wonderfully maintained that they are retention ponds shaped like ditches," said Adair.
