(WATE) — Three corrections officers with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office no longer work for the office, while three were suspended without pay after the death of Elijah Lester Isbill while in Monroe County custody in February.
Sheriff Tommy Jones said in a statement released Friday that one corrections corporal was terminated and two corrections deputies resigned before being terminated. Another deputy and two sergeants were suspended without pay following an internal investigation.
"Since the release of the jail video footage, I have been asked multiple times whether I condone the behavior exhibited by the corrections deputies. My answer is unequivocal: No, I do not," he said.
