CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The suspect accused of stabbing and killing gym owner Patrick Heringer made his first court appearance Friday Morning.

Mordecia Black, a convicted felon, now faces charges of murder and aggravated burglary.

In court, prosecutors revealed that Black, who was released from prison in January after serving nine years for assault, had been on the run since February after cutting off his ankle monitor.

Assistant Hamilton County Prosecutor David Hickenlooper described Black as "an exceptionally dangerous individual."

Black's attorney, Christopher Collman, said his client denied the allegations.

"When discussing the charges with him, judge, he was shocked to why he's being charged with this and maintains absolutely that he's not guilty of these charges," said Collman.
