SHELBY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A potentially dangerous situation in Shelby was kept under control overnight thanks to quick-acting safety systems and a bit of good luck.
The Shelby Fire & Rescue Department responded to a single-vehicle accident after a car crashed into a gas pump. According to fire officials, the station’s fuel shut-off system worked as designed, cutting off fuel and helping prevent what could have been a much larger fire.
Firefighters put out the small blaze that did start, and no major injuries were reported.
