Right-hander Corbin Burnes will undergo Tommy John surgery, a crushing injury for a team that, less than six months ago, signed Burnes to a club-record $210 million deal.
The procedure, which repairs a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in Burnes’ right elbow, generally comes with a 12- to 18-month recovery process, meaning it could threaten to cost him most, if not all, of 2026 as well.
The news was announced by Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo on Friday, June 6, in Cincinnati, where his team was set to open a three-game series against the Reds later in the day.
The injury is devastating for both Burnes and the Diamondbacks.
Burnes, 30, has been one of the best pitchers in the majors the past six seasons and prides himself on his durability. Entering this year, he had made all
