A Vandy commit on Friday was named the Gatorade national baseball player of the year, marking the second time in three years the award has gone to a prospective Commodore.

This time, the player was right-handed pitcher Seth Hernandez, who posted a 9-1 record, 0.39 ERA and 105 strikeouts against just seven walks in 53-1/3 innings for Corona High in Corona, Calif.

But just as was the case with the 2023 Gatorade national baseball player of the year, former Vanderbilt commit Max Clark, there’s a good chance Hernandez won’t ever be suiting up for the Commodores.
