PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) - It’s not the vacation dozens of visitors to Pigeon Forge expected when they woke up to the crashing of mud and cars when a piece of the mountain broke away.

It trapped them for more than six hours. Some of the people were headed home Friday, others have been moved to a new place for the remainder of their stay. They all wonder why this piece of the mountain would fall when we’ve been dry for a few days.

Excavation crews were on site just an hour after vacationers woke up to a chunk of the mountain sliding down and crashing into cars and cabins.

“I saw the mudslide. It’s like, good Lord, you know, some of the other people there had called for assistance, 911, they said. So then the waiting began. We did not hear from anybody,” said Lester Detty, who was visit
