ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Public Health on Friday confirmed a fifth measles case in the state this year. Health officials said the person is the family member of a person with an earlier confirmed case back in May.
The original case occurred in an unvaccinated metro Atlanta resident who had acquired the illness outside the country, DPH said.
The department did not provide any identifying information about the person or their relation to the individual with the earlier case.
"Individuals who may have been exposed to either of these persons have been given the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine or antibodies to help reduce the risk of developing measles and are being monitored for symptoms," DPH said in a release Friday. "Currently, no new cases of measles have been reported
