2500 Americans died as Allied Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, France on the morning of June 6, 1944. While the sacrifice was great, winning the battle was critical for defeating Nazi Germany and victory in Europe less than a year later.
Bedford saw the most losses per capita in the United States and that’s where the National D-Day Memorial sits.
