NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — The man accused of driving drunk and causing a deadly crash on the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge earlier this year faced a judge Thursday.

Robert Campbell, 62, has been charged with operating under the influence - manslaughter and operating under the influence - second offense in connection with the crash, which happened back in February.

Prosecutors believe Campbell had been out drinking at the Bitter End bar in Fairhaven before getting behind the wheel.

Campbell was crossing the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge when he crossed over the double yellow lines and crashed into an oncoming car. The driver of that vehicle, identified as 28-year-old Mason Evich, was pronounced dead at the scene. Campbell was seriously injured.
