Former Virginia star and current No. 1 catching prospect for the Chicago White Sox, Kyle Teel, saw his major league dreams come true on Friday.
After tearing it up so far in 2025 for the White Sox's Triple-A affiliate Charlotte Knights, Teel received the callup and will make his major league debut on Friday night, in which he will bat sixth for Chicago in its home game against the Kansas City Royals.
In a heartwarming clip posted by the White Sox, Teel called his parents to tell them the good news. He first called his mom, asking her if she had any plans, and — when she said no — telling her she needed to book a flight to Chicago.
Teel then called his dad via FaceTime, and before he could even drop the news, the emotion on his face gave it away.
"Are you going to Chicago?" his dad asked. "I'll see you in Chicago tomorrow."
Teel, a first-round pick by the Boston Red Sox in 2023 before being traded to Chicago last December, is batting .295 in Triple-A this season with eight home runs and 30 RBI. Now, the struggling White Sox, which sit at 20-43 on the season, will hope Teel can provide a spark for a team that appears to be on its way to a third-straight losing season.
