CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Five suspects accused of taking part in a mass shooting at a Hickory pool party that left one man dead and nearly a dozen others injured appeared before a judge Friday.

The deadly shooting happened over the weekend during a crowded party on Walnut Acres Drive. Investigators say the attack was not random, but planned, gang-related and carried out by multiple shooters who fired from an elevated hillside into a crowd of more than 100 people.

So far, eight people have been arrested in the case , including the five suspects who had their first court appearances on Friday. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office says more arrests could be coming.
