The Mets were close to taking the series over the Dodgers when a mistake by third baseman Brett Baty allowed Los Angeles to tie the Thursday’s game up in the eighth inning.
The Dodgers were down, 5-4,with Will Smith on third and Alex Pages at the plate. Baty fielded a Pages grounder and made a low throw home to catcher Francisco Alvarez, wh couldn’t field it. Pitcher Reed Garrett grabbed the ball, but was accidentally blocked from the plate by Alvarez, preventing the reliever from tagging Smith.

The Dodgers went on the win the game, 6-5.
