DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Reese Olson, on the injured list since May 19 with inflammation in his right ring finger, will throw a bullpen session on Saturday.
It will be his first work since receiving an injection that he hopes will chase away the inflammation that has affected his grip on the changeup. Once that pitch returns to form, Olson will be ready to begin a short rehab assignment.
“It’s taking a little longer than we would’ve liked,” Olson said Friday. “People we talked to gave us kind of a range of days. We were hoping it would be toward the front of that, but it’s landing more toward the middle.”
Olson said the injection was painful -- “It didn’t feel too good for the first few seconds” -- but he’s optimistic about the results.
“(The finger) was tugging a l
