David (Dave) Allen Szymanski is the current Parade Chair for the Coronado Fourth of July (CFOJ) organization, but his history with the holiday here in town stems back to his childhood.

“With my dad being on the Coronado Fourth of July Committee for 53 years, I grew up with it being around,” he told me. “I was either in the parade or helped setting it up until I was old enough to be a part of the committee.”

His father, Andy, served on the committee for decades before stepping down due to Parkinson’s disease. Andy also directed traffic control when he was part of the Junior Police prior to being on the committee. Besides Andy, Dave’s sisters, Laura and Michelle, have also been involved with the parade in various ways over the years. All this to say: the Coronado Fourth of July Parade runs
