ST PAUL, Minn. — The Jackson Street Bridge in St. Paul will be closed between Empire Drive and Acker Street for about three months "out of an abundance of caution" following a routine inspection, county officials say.
A press release from Ramsey County said barriers were put up Friday, with detour routes expected to be posted on Monday. Officials didn't elaborate on what was found during the routine inspection, but after consultation with the City of St. Paul, they decided to close off the bridge. Public Works is expected to consult with bridge experts next week on specific "interim" repairs until reconstruction can begin.
Each day, Ramsey County officials say about 3,500 vehicles travel on the 1930s-era bridge, which crosses over several railroad tracks.
