SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - ICE arrests have once again hit South Dakota, this incident affecting a trial at the Minnehaha County Courthouse.
As ICE arrested the individual, his wife reportedly was upset about the arrest, and because some jurors who were on break saw the incident, a mistrial was declared.
The individual was subpoenaed by the defense to be a potential witness in the case of Cesar Ortiz Maestre, who is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a shooting in May of 2024.
The individual never testified since both sides rested.
“ICE, I think, acted reasonably arresting him where they did. Minnehaha County is not a sanctuary county, the courthouse is not a sanctuary courthouse, arrests happen there all the time,” Daniel Haggar, South Dakota State’s
