AURORA, BEAUFORT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - As many prepare for summer break before getting ready for another school year, students and staff at S.W. Snowden Elementary School are saying goodbye to a beloved institution forever.

“I’m so fortunate. I am the most fortunate person to have been able to work with these people and these children,” retired school librarian Joy McCracken says.

Residents gathered at the school for a final farewell, sending the Pre-K through eighth graders off on their last bus ride from the only school in Aurora.

“It breaks my heart, and it breaks my children’s heart too,” retired teacher and bus driver, Linda Hill, says, “that they have to travel so far to get to another school when we have a school right here.”
