The formerly feckless Baltimore Orioles won six straight after The Baltimore Sun published my letter to griping fans suggesting they cool it and “let your hometown heroes start getting through their challenges” ( “Baseball fans can handle the pain,” May 28).
“Everyone has some,” I further observed. “It will end up okay and along the way there’s beer and hot dogs.”
The team’s resurgence has little to do with my sports wisdom and fandom, but it does support my advocacy for the emotionally restorative power of beer and hot dogs. To that end, I personally recommend O’s fans quaff Peabody Heights Old Oriole Park Bohemian Lager. It’s brewed by my son Alec and it is delicious and comes from a facility built atop the Govans site of an Orioles baseball stadium that burned to the ground in 194
