BATON ROUGE, La. — Griffin Kirn has been the ace of West Virginia’s pitching staff throughout 2025.
The senior left-hander regularly started series openers in Big 12 Conference play and got the nod for the Mountaineers in last week’s Clemson Regional opener against Kentucky.
Two days after Kirn threw 118 pitches over 7.1 innings of a no decision in WVU’s 4-3 victory against the Wildcats, he was back on the mound to face UK. That came about as result of West Virginia scoring six two-out runs in the eighth inning to erase a five-run deficit, allowing for Kirn to record his first career save and preserve a 13-12 win over the Wildcats.
