ST PAUL, Minn. — Friday is the first full day of the Islamic holiday of Eid.
Celebrations kicked off at the state fairgrounds with food and prayer. State Representative Sama-keb Hussein was part of the event, saying it's all about making sure people have a place for peaceful prayer.
In past years, the event has been held in Minnehaha Falls, but it was moved this year to fit a larger crowd.
"The community is growing," said Ahmed Anshur, executive director of Al-Ihsan Islamic Center. "People are coming from other states to settle in St. Paul. People are coming from other cities and towns and joining our community. We are happy to welcome them, and I just see it as a growing community. "
Organizers say they hope to continue working with the State Fair for two festivals per year. Eid goes
