Capital Metro officially welcomed its first class of transit officers, marking a significant step in addressing safety concerns from both drivers and the community.
The newly formed squad consists of a captain, two sergeants, and nine officers, who were all sworn in during a ceremony Friday morning.
CapMetro President and CEO Dottie Watkins emphasized the importance of the new unit, highlighting that they didn't want to rush this process.
"The decision to build a transit police department wasn't made lightly. It was actually something we had been thinking about for decades," said Watkins.
